The Los Angeles Dodgers said Saturday they have transferred right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the 60-day injured list, making Aug. 15 the earliest he can return to the team.

The move came a day after manager Dave Roberts said Yamamoto, who is working his way back from a strained rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder, had resumed playing catch without pain.

The 25-year-old first landed on the 15-day injured list with triceps tightness after he pitched just two innings against the Kansas City Royals on June 15.

In his major league rookie season, the three-time MVP in Japan's Pacific League has gone 6-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 14 starts.
