Around 270 people took a spin on an ice carousel cut into a frozen lake in the city of Yubari on Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido in mid-February.
The Lake Shuparo carousel, 15 meters in diameter and about 20 centimeters thick, took eight workers over two hours to cut for the Feb. 9-12 event.

The circular block continued revolving once it was set in motion, providing a 360-degree view of the stars at night.
"Although I live nearby, the view from the dam lake is spectacular," said 66-year-old Teiko Kumagai.
About 40 tourists from Hawaii also took a ride.
Kuniyuki Takahara, president of Sapporo-based organizer Cool Star Co., said, "Ice carousels are spreading to various parts of Hokkaido, but the scenery of Lake Shuparo is the best."
