French police have arrested a Russian man who is suspected of plotting acts to disrupt the Paris Olympics, according to French media reports.
The arrest came days before the opening ceremony on Friday featuring a boat parade on the Seine River.
According to Le Monde, the suspect is believed to be a member of the Russian Federal Security Service who has studied at a culinary school in Paris.
Evidence that the man was involved in the plot has been found at his home, according to the newspaper.
French authorities have stepped up security in the run-up to the games to brace for possible terrorism, cyberattacks and the spread of misinformation.
Extra anti-terrorism measures have gone into effect as more than 300,000 people, including world leaders, are expected to watch the ceremony from the riverbanks.
For the first time in Summer Olympics history, the opening ceremony will be held outside a stadium.
