Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out nine over six innings while surrendering four runs but did not figure in the decision for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lost 9-4 to the New York Mets on Friday.
Yamamoto allowed seven hits and issued one walk at Dodger Stadium in his 99-pitch effort. The nine strikeouts are the most so far in his five-game Major League Baseball career.
"I threw some that were good and some that weren't. But we lost and there's no mistaking the fact that I wasn't good," said Yamamoto, whose nine strikeouts are the most so far in his five-game Major League Baseball career.
The Dodgers tied the game 4-4 in the sixth, but a seventh-inning error put a runner on for Francisco Lindor, who homered off Dodgers' reliever Daniel Hudson (1-1) to give the Mets the lead for good.
The Mets opened the scoring in the second, when DJ Stewart jumped on a first-pitch Yamamoto fastball for a home run. An error contributed to a second run in the inning.
The Mets came back for two more in the third before the Dodgers rallied, started by Shohei Ohtani in the fourth.
Ohtani walked, stole second and scored on a Teoscar Hernandez single, and singled in a run in the fifth. He finished the game 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
The Mets have won five straight while the Dodgers have dropped two in a row.
