Shohei Ohtani doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Friday to snap a four-game losing streak.
Ohtani's two-out, ground-rule double to center came off Tyler Holton with runners at the corners at Comerica Park. The star slugger was hitless in his previous four at-bats on the day.
"All I wanted was a base hit, just to put the ball in play, and I was really hoping that the ball would get through, and it did," Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton.
"It was really important for us to get a W today. I think we played really good. I'm glad it turned out well for us."
The Dodgers overcame an early 3-0 deficit, and their five relievers held the Tigers scoreless after James Paxton lasted just 3-2/3 innings.
Freddie Freeman had a solo home run, his 14th, among his two hits.
