The world's first full-fledged area themed on the hit animation "Frozen" officially opened its gates Monday at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort as the franchise celebrates its 10th anniversary this month.
The highly anticipated "World of Frozen" saw hundreds of guests lining up for hours outside the area before it officially opened, with dedicated fans dressed up in movie-related garb.
Two parkgoers said they had traveled from Japan just to visit the new area, as Frozen was their favorite Disney film. "I'm very happy to be able to see the kingdom of Arendelle," said Mai, a 34-year-old woman who declined to reveal her surname.
Designed to immerse guests in a captivating winter wonderland, the area features Norwegian scenery inspired by the popular films, including the Arendelle Castle and snowy landscapes that are iconic to the series.
The area also has two attractions -- a musical boat ride that takes guests through Elsa's ice palace and a Frozen-themed rollercoaster.
Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan said at the opening ceremony that the launch of the new area is a "defining moment to elevate Hong Kong Disneyland to a whole new level, and to attract more tourists to embark on journeys to Hong Kong."
The new area in Hong Kong is the first of three Frozen-themed attractions planned for Disney parks, with Tokyo DisneySea set to open one in June 2024 while a third zone is currently under construction at Disneyland Paris.
